EVENT SANCTIONING/INSURANCE
We know insuring a race is a costly investment for RDs, and it's not exactly the most glamorous or fun part of being a race director. We also believe offering a high quality insurance package that addresses the unique needs of adventure race directors and racers is a must. USARA has worked hard over the years to offer the best insurance policy it can to member RDs, and we are proud of the product we offer. We have 20+ years of experience, learning what works and what doesn't, and we have worked to build a comprehensive policy that will fulfill your needs at competitive prices, protecting you and providing valuable peace of mind for your race staff while also offering excellent coverage for your racers, volunteers, personnel, spectators, and land managers involved in your event.
QUALIFICATIONS FOR USARA SANCTIONING
Individual Racer Membership:
For an event to be sanctioned by USARA, all racers must either be USARA members or they must hold a single event permit. We encourage racers to purchase an annual membership ($35), which supports USARA’s programming while providing access to a range of benefits including access to hundreds of pro deals through ExpertVoice. Alternatively, participants can purchase a single event permit for just $8. We encourage RDs to use the The RunSignUp platform, which is fully integrated with USARA membership, allowing both membership dues and waivers to be handled electronically during registration.
Additional Sanctioning Requirements.
Sanctioned race directors agree to follow a number of safety, logistical, and communication related standards when they agree to USARA sanctioning. These requirements include but are not limited to:
Following USARA established best practices when it comes to event planning, management, and communication, as outlined in the USARA Event Planning Playbook
Following USARA established best practices when it comes to safety management, as outlined in the USARA Safety-Aware Event Planning Playbook
Adhering to various individual requirements as detailed in the USARA Sanctioning Agreement
Reporting notable incidents or near misses to USARA
Submitting results to USARA in a timely fashion
INSURANCE POLICY INFORMATION
After purchasing a USARA insurance policy, we will issue you a certificate of insurance (COI) for your event. We also can issue additional certificates required by third-parties such as canoe liveries, landowners, parks, and other permitting authorities.
100% of your premium for insurance goes to the insurance carrier. USARA does not profit from the sale of insurance to RDs, and in fact, we subsidize it for USARA sanctioned events!
